Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 has been out for a hot minute now.
Released deep in the pandemic, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 has been played so thoroughly and most people have already moved on from it. The fact that Activision disbanded the team that put it together so that they can work on other games was the final nail in the coffin. The bottom line was that there was to be no new DLC or even patches anymore. Likely Activision would sunset the online aspect of the game.
Then suddenly, Microsoft took a liking to Activision and is now on route to purchasing the company outright. Along with Blizzard and King under the purchase, Microsoft is about to have its hands full once the transaction is allowed to go through. This put a lot of optimism in the hearts of fans whose favorite game IPs had been abandoned by Activision/Blizzard/King. Could Microsoft/XBOX bring a return to form for games like the Tony Hawk series of games? It seems like this could be the case. This is further evidenced by Activision/Blizzard/King hiring in David Madrid. David Madrid is an ad agency that specializes in signal boosting pop culture.
So, here comes David Madrid, focusing their first year under Activision’s employ. They were tasked to make a campaign for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. A game that has, as previously mentioned, served its purpose and lived its life in the eyes of the publisher. Clearly, talks in the background have yielded that XBOX wants to see more Tony Hawk games. Whether they want to keep the current game alive enough so that when they take over, they can make new ones, remains to be seen. But we have a new ad agency, tasked with the job of keeping Tony Hawk’s current offering afloat. This does seem against the status quo which Activision is notorious for; extending the life of games that make them money and bailing on games that don’t.
After all of this conjecture, that David Madrid is doing with the franchise? Why, “scratchboards” of course! It’s a mashup between winning money/prizes on scratch tickets and scratching your skateboard when grinding. It made ultimate sense and Tony Hawk himself was 100% on board with it (sorry for the pun). To enter, you’ll follow pro skaters and influencers who received the board for giveaway. Once they post the video, they’ll have you share it with #ScratchBoards on Instagram or Twitter. Each will give away only one. We have the official video below.
