SXSW 2023: New ‘Yellowjackets’ Trailer Foretells Doom in Season Two

Something sinister is lurking between the trees in Showtime’s ‘Yellowjackets‘.

The popular drama series—which follows the past and present lives of a plane-wrecked high school soccer team—is ramping up for its second season. In the first season finale, we witnessed the kind-hearted Jackie (Ella Purnell) freeze to death after being cast out into the Canadian wilderness. This was a result of Jackie wanting to uphold her morals in the face of the growing anarchy among the girls as they attempt to survive their perilous situation.

Leading up to this devastating twist, season one chronicled the soccer team, in both timelines, trying to deal with what happened to them. Eerie moments were implanted throughout season one—and now in the season two trailer—to hint that something else was in the woods with them, and it may be more nefarious than any of them could possibly imagine.

Season two will bring back season one regulars like Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Melanie Lynskey and will add some exciting new faces to the mix as well, including Elijah Wood and Simone Kessell.

‘Yellowjackets’ is the unnerving type of horror that mixes fear, paranoia, and grief together to concoct something terrifying and utterly disturbing. The series creates an atmospheric doom that hangs over every scene, and it’s impossible to shake it off. There’s no doubt that season two will conjure up more of this type of horror, given one of the final lines of the trailer: “I feel like shit’s going to get a lot worse out here.”
