Peacock’s new streaming series ‘Twisted Metal’ is set to ignite screens this summer on July 27th, and they just debuted a new clip from the show at Summer Game Fest.
The features the beloved character Sweet Tooth and offers a glimpse into the overall tone of the upcoming series.
Starring Anthony Mackie, Peacock’s action-packed comedy series follows the journey of a fast-talking outsider who is presented with an opportunity for a better life. However, the catch is that he must successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
SYNOPSIS:
TWISTED METAL, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
In the streaming series adaptation AEW superstar Samoa Joe brings Sweet Tooth to life physically, while Will Arnettuses his voiceover skills to add some character. Neve Campbell joins the cast as Raven, with Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, Mike Mitchell, Lou Beatty Jr. and Tahj Vaughans also star.
As you can tell from the clip they are trying to infuse a cheesy comedic tone with Sweet Tooth and for me, personally, it lands flat.
The first ‘Twisted Metal’ game hit the rental store shelves in 1995 for PlayStation. I absolutely loved playing this game as a kid and would love some kind of combination of the old school game with a Grand Theft Auto approach that allows drivers to get out and interact with the world around them. Give me an added featured where I can create my own car in the shop and develop a driver to take it on missions, slashing and bashing my way through an apocalyptic landscape.
Anyway, back to the streaming series. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are responsible for the original concept of the live-action series. You may know those names from ‘Zombieland’ and the ‘Deadpool’ movie. Adding to the creative team, Michael Jonathan Smith of ‘Cobra Kai’ fame is set to write and show-run the ‘Twisted Metal’ series. Executive producers include Will Arnett and Marc Forman.
Catch the series on Peacock starting July 27th.
