Prepare for a reboot of this fan favorite brought to you by Warner Bros Games and NeatherRealm! The Mortal Kombatfranchise continues to walk the line between fighting games and traditional horror with Mortal Kombat 1 (or the twelfth installment). Well maybe not through its haunted homes but instead through a gorey deathmatch! Fans of the series famously love getting their hands a tad bloodied. With this reimagining, we look forward to seeing the plot and returning cast members overhauled to distinguish themselves from prior iterations.
Recent announcements for the game showcase Smoke & Rain as two of the choices available on its main roster. Continuing the plot of the previous title, this game will follow the new universe that Liu Kang created. One of the subplots also revolves around Scorpion & Sub-Zero finding Lin Keui’s new aspiration.

This fresh rendition brings in mechanics similar to other fighting games like Skullgirls and Warner Bro’s other title Multiverse, with the addition of Kameo Fighters. The Kameo Fighters feature allows players to creatively use a variety of characters for support moves to combo their opponent. Currently, the confirmed Kameo Fighters are Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion, but other familiar faces may be announced at a later date. This game continues to try and streamline the franchise, honing in both its character and what its known for. While many gamers run off to polish up their controllers and fight sticks, remember to have patience. Though it’s tempting to be overeager, it’s important not to rush in! Arena Kombat most often ends in broken bones and hearts, much more in the literal sense.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19th to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. It will also be accessible for PC through Steam and the Epic Games store.
