The story at the center of Alex Garland’s new film from A24 features a race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge. Why does this sound sort of familiar?

The boundaries of America as we know it are changing and nothing is off the table. 19 states have succeeded. Military being used against its own people. Armed militias. A warning sign of what could happen if the wrong leader is ever elected to the White House in a time when the tipping point is closer than we think. Alex Garland’s film in this moment is more thought provoking than ever before. It is sensationalized? Sure. Is it possible? Possibly.

‘Civil War’ is coming to theaters April 26, 2024.
