Many gamers dreams came true today as Remedy announced their plans to remake the first two ‘Max Payne’ titles. Working together with Rockstar Games, the studio looks to bring Max Payne’s heart breaking story to modern consoles. The agreement between the studios marks the first time the two have worked together since ‘Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne’, which launched all the way back in 2003.

The first title in the series launched in July of 20o1, marking only the second title made by Remedy. Praised for its dark atmosphere, comic style cutscenes, and ground breaking “bullet time” gameplay, the title went on to win several awards. The game followed the story of Max Payne, a former New York City Police Officer who joined the Drug Enforcement Agency, before his wife and child are murdered during a home invasion.

The title mixed the perfect combination of a dark noire story and frantic action gameplay. The classic murder mystery sees Max work his way through New York Cities underworld as he tries to find those responsible for his families death. Remedy went on to release the second title in the series ‘Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne’ while Rockstar would eventually develop and publish ‘Max Payne 3’. However, the franchise has been dormant since 2012, leaving many fans eager for more of the gritty stories told in the series.

In the announcement post, both of the company’s CEO’s expressed their love for the franchise and their excitement to work together once again in order to bring these amazing titles into the modern era. The remakes will come in a single package and will use Remedy’s Northlight Engine which was used to make both ‘Quantum Break’ and ‘Control’. The studio is also hard at work on a sequel to ‘Alan Wake’ which is projected to launch sometime next year.

The remake for both titles will land on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and is currently in the concept development stage. The budget will be financed by Rockstar Games which will be “in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production” according to the post on the studios site. No release window was given for the titles but it can be assumed that they will most likely arrive well after ‘Alan Wake II’.
